Remodeling the Interior

The building inspector said that we needed to
reduce the size of the skylight opening by 2.5
feet, so I built a frame for the drywall on the
east side.

As Eleanor stands in the gaping mouth of our skylight,
she fills and polishes gaps in the wood beams of
our one exposed roof truss with the precision of a
true dental professional. In time, the truss will be
"whitened" with a coating of paint.

All of the walls are in now. The door to the mud
room is on the left and the door to the pantry is
on the right. A refrigerator and cabinets will go
between them. There is a shelf above the
refrigerator for plants, art, etc.

Here he installs it.

Brian prepares the wall that will separate the
mud room from the garage.

Only the mud room will have a heating duct. The
pantry should retain enough heat without one.

The floor is ready for insulation.

Steve extends the floor into the garage.

Just one more.

Out they go.

Only the studs remain now.

Bit by bit the old wall disappears.

The crew works together to remove the east wall
of the kitchen (formerly the dining room) in order
to create space for a mud room and pantry.

The finished product.

Shawn (on the ladder) is adding vertical strips
to the LVL beam on the south wall of the dining
room in order to make the wall flat.
